Fleet Readiness Center Apprenticeship Program

Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRCSW) located on the Naval Air Station North Island has an Apprenticeship Program that not only PAYS their participants while they are being trained, but also provides them with benefits such as health insurance and career development opportunities. This program offers youths another path to a lucrative career who may not want to obtain a traditional post-secondary degree. FRCSW performs Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services on Navy and Marine Corps aircraft. The command also sends teams of maintenance personnel to apply their talents onboard Navy aircraft carriers and U.S. military bases worldwide. Their Apprenticeship Program is an agreement between the apprentice, the employer, the Union, and the Department of the Navy. This agreement requires a specific number of on-the-job learning (OJL) hours, as well as classroom hours. All apprentices will receive certification from the Department of labor at the end of their training. FRCSW offers 15 trades in the apprenticeship program such as Aircraft Electrician, Sheet Metal Mechanic, Aircraft Painter, Composite Fabricator, Electronics Mechanic, just to name a few. All candidates must be at least 18 years old. Candidates must also have their High School Diploma or an equivalent.
